When God Speaks in a Whisper – A Reflection on 1 Kings 19

A couple Sundays ago, I was in virtual church—Providence Baptist Church, and Pastor Nesbitt preached on 1 Kings 19:1–18. I don’t know what it was, but that message hit me. Like, really got me thinking and feeling seen. I’ve been holding onto it ever since.

In this chapter, Elijah had just experienced a crazy high moment—God literally sent fire down from heaven, and everything worked in his favor. But right after that, he’s running for his life. He’s exhausted, scared, and asking God to just take him out.

And I was like… wow.

Because haven’t we all felt like that before?

Those moments when you’re doing everything “right,” but you still feel drained, discouraged, or alone?

What got me was how God responded.

He didn’t yell at Elijah or tell him to “man up.” He let him rest. He fed him. Then He led him to a quiet place. And when it was time to speak, God didn’t show up in the wind, or fire, or earthquake…

He spoke in a whisper.

That whisper really stuck with me.

Sometimes we’re looking for big signs or loud answers, but God moves gently. Sometimes He’s in the stillness, when everything else fades and it’s just you and Him.

The part that really comforted me was verse 18—when God tells Elijah, “You’re not the only one.”

Even when you feel alone, He’s like: “No, I’ve preserved thousands just like you.”

For me, as a 23-year-old running a faith-based beauty brand, trying to stay grounded, creative, and spiritually fed—it gets overwhelming. There are days I feel like I’m pouring from an empty cup or questioning if I’m even built for all of this. But God used that message to remind me:

• You can rest. It’s not a weakness.

• You’re not alone, even when it feels like it.

• God still speaks. And His whisper is just as powerful as fire.

So yeah—this chapter has been sitting with me heavy, in the best way. If you’ve been feeling tired, unsure, or like God’s been quiet… lean in. He’s still there. He’s still speaking. And He still sees you.

Listen for the whisper.
